San Antonio Conservation Society Position Statement

Historic and Design Review Commission

December 19, 2018

We supported the Office of Historic Preservation’s finding that three Westside structures should be recognized as landmarks:  the old Valencia Grocery/Compadres Place at 219 N. San Marcos, the shotgun house at 428 S. San Augustine, and the adjacent commercial building at 430 S. San Augustine.

Each of these buildings contributes to the architectural and cultural history of the surrounding Mexican-American neighborhood.  Read our statement to find out what makes them significant.

The HDRC agreed that these three properties should be designated.

City Council

December 13, 2018
