The proposed redevelopment of the 1926 Aztec Theater Building – the vacant upper floors, not the theater – shows respect for this historic landmark.  Once owned by the Society, the Aztec conceals a flamboyant, Mayan Revival style interior beneath a more conventional exterior.  We concur that the redesigned rooftop addition and exit stair minimize the visual impact of these new elements.  Read our full statement.

The commission approved the project with some minimal stipulations from Office of Historic Preservation staff.
