San Antonio Conservation Society Announcement

September 28, 2018

The Planning Commission, together with the Historic and Design Review Commission, will hold a joint session to vote on conceptual approval for key proposals in the Alamo plan:

  • Closure of S. Alamo Street and partial conveyance to the State
  • Leasing of Alamo Plaza to the State of Texas
  • General plan design (includes option to demolish historic Woolworth building)
  • Moving of the Cenotaph

We have been opposed to the majority of these proposals and will be wrapping up our petition to City officials on October 1st.  Over 7,000 signatures will be presented to Mayor Nirenberg and City Council when they vote the issue on Oct. 18th.

We will be attending the commissions’ joint session on Oct. 10th to deliver a statement.  Please join us.

Don’t miss one of your last opportunities for public commentary!  The way these commissions vote will be important for City Council’s final decision.  The meeting starts at 5:30 in the board room of the Development Services Center, 1901 S. Alamo.  Plan ahead for limited onsite parking.
