San Antonio Conservation Society Position Statement

August 2, 2018

The San Antonio Conservation Society has been involved with the conservation of San Antonio’s historic missions for more than 90 years.   We played a central role in both the creation of the National Historical Park and the inscription of the San Antonio Missions as a World Heritage site.  Recently, we spoke in support of proposed zoning changes designed to encourage compatible development around the southern missions.   City Council approved the rezoning.

We also made a statement against the rezoning of 808 E. Carson in the Government Hill Historic District.  This request to increase density provided another example of a project in conflict with an existing neighborhood plan. Nevertheless, City Council also approved this zoning change.
