SECTION 106 NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT IS BEING THREATENED
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) voted to revise the governing regulations for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). These revisions, if passed, would “drastically reduce the effectiveness of the NHPA and the current legal protections for historic and cultural places.” – National Trust for Historic Preservation
“Section 106 of the NHPA requires federal agencies to consider the effects on historic properties of projects they carry out, assist, fund, permit, license, or approve throughout the country…(it) gives the ACHP, interested parties, and public the chance to weigh in on these matters before a final decision is made.” – Advisory Council on Historic Preservation website
