San Antonio Conservation Society Position Statement

June 22, 2018

We commend the owner of three historic houses for going the extra mile to ensure their preservation.   The owner will move one Craftsman style bungalow and/or two shotgun houses from land in Dignowity Hill, owned by developer Grey Street Partners, to a vacant lot in a similar neighborhood.  Once relocated, the houses will provide architecturally appropriate infill to meet ongoing housing needs.  Reusing these houses also prevents piles of building materials from going to the landfill.  It’s a win-win that demonstrates that demolition isn’t the only way for developers to clear land, although preservation in place is preferred whenever possible. Read our full statement.

This Historic and Design Review Commission approved the proposed move.
