ELEANOR FREEBORN BENNETT EDUCATIONAL FUND

P U R P O S E

The Board of Directors of the San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation has established the Eleanor Freeborn Bennett Educational Fund in memory of Eleanor Freeborn Bennett, who served as president of the Society from 1953 to 1955.
The intent of the Fund is to further support the goals of the Foundation, particularly in the area of educating others about the importance of preservation.
Eleanor Bennett’s husband, Maj. Gen. John M. Bennett, and their children, Eleanor Marlow, Carolyn Wood, Davis Bennett and John Bennett, have endowed the Fund to perpetuate Eleanor’s ideals.
APPLICATIONS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS WILL BE CONSIDERED

I. The education of specified individuals and/or non-profit groups through participation in various seminars, conferences and internships which would distribute and discern relevant information in the field of preservation and restoration as pertinent to the Foundation’s purpose, i.e., American Preservation Technologist.

II. The education of artisans, craftsmen, tradesmen or apprentices in unique or near-extinct skills which would be of use and benefit in preservation and restoration, i.e., fresco stabilization, Rome Center apprenticeship, adobe brickmaking.

III. The sponsorship of seminars, publications, training, research, documentation or visual arts to further the goals of preservation or to create a catalyst for the better understanding of preservation and restoration through education.

IV. The education of worthy students in the form of grants or scholarships that are concentrated in the area of historic preservation and restoration.

RULES GOVERNING THE APPLICATION FOR FUNDING

NOTE: These rules govern all applicants; scholarship requirements are additional.

Funding may be granted by the San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation Board of Directors to a worthy individual or group, subject to the following conditions:

1. Commitments shall be made for not more than once in a twelve-month period at any one time.

2. This application must be completed in its entirety and the applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from other than those references listed in the formal application.

3. Applicants must submit a one-page summary stating reasons for pursuing the particular aspect of activities.

4. All supporting data required to be furnished with this application will become part of the permanent Eleanor Freeborn Bennett Educational Fund file and will not be returned to the applicant.

5. The completed application should be forwarded to the Eleanor Freeborn Bennett Education Fund, Attn.: Scholarship Committee, San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation, 107 King William Street, San Antonio, Texas 78204. The Scholarship Committee will meet as soon as possible following receipt of the application (except in the case of a scholarship application, q.v.) and the recipient will be notified following approval by the Society Board of Directors. If applicant requires further information, inquiries should be sent to the above address.

Applicant shall attend an interview with the Scholarship Committee, upon invitation.
