San Antonio Conservation SOCIETY
Committees
Awards – coordinates and
presents the Publication Awards (with Library Committee) and the
Historic Preservation (building) Awards, each held every other year.
Bylaws – chaired by the
Parliamentarian; recommends bylaw changes to the board of directors and
the membership
Historic Building Survey –
works with the City of San Antonio’s Historic Preservation Office on a
survey of the 36-square mile historic boundary of the city.
Historic Tours –
Coordinates guided tours (one or two days) to historic communities once
a year for members and/or their guests.
Hospitality – coordinates
the Society’s Kings’ Party and assists the Program Chairman with
membership meetings, the Steves Homestead Christmas Party and other
Society receptions as requested.
Junior Associate Membership
– Responsible for the Society’s youth membership (infant to 18 years
old) and their membership programs.
La Villita Properties –
oversees Society-owned properties in the La Villita area: Casa Villita
(Jeremiah Dashiell House) at 511 Villita Street and Conservation Corner
(Otto Bombach House) at 231 S. Alamo, leased to the Little Rhein
Steakhouse and Fig Tree Restaurant, and the Gresser Complex, 227 S.
Presa, (Louis Gresser House), headquarters for the NIOSA Committee, and
102-106 Navarro (building and parking lot).
Long Range Planning --
reviews current board structure and functions in order to recommend
fundamental changes to produce a more efficient organizational structure
in keeping with the Society’s mission.
Membership / Volunteer Coordinator
- responsible for recruiting, placing, tracking and gaining board
approval of associate and active members, including workshops for new
members.
Military Liaison – monitors
historic preservation at current and former military
installations—Randolph AFB, Lackland AFB, Fort Sam Houston, Camp Bullis/Camp
Stanley, Kelly and Brooks City-Base.
Neighborhood Liaison –
monitors neighborhood issues for the Society.
Parade Activities –
responsible for entries in the Holiday River Parade, Texas Cavaliers
River Parade, Battle of Flowers, King William and Fiesta Flambeau
Parades.
Program – responsible for
the programs at the Society’s general membership meetings and the
lecture series.
Properties – coordinates
activities and projects between the SACS Properties Restoration Manager
and the various SACS property chairmen.
Properties Accession, Deaccession &
Inventory – oversees the acceptance, cataloging and disposition
of objects given, loaned, owned and maintained by the Society.
Publications / Newsletter –
coordinates preparation of the Society’s periodicals, the Preservation
Advocate and
the Bulletin.
Resource Development –
Addresses both human and financial resource development for Society and
Foundation programs and projects.
Revolving Fund & Properties
Acquisition - responsible for the revolving fund program
(Foundation) and acquisition of properties research (Society).
Scholarship & Grants –
oversees the Society’s scholarship program (Foundation) and grants
program (Society). Grants are currently given once per fiscal year and
are recommended to the board of directors at a special called board
meeting.
Warehouse – oversees the
property that houses NIOSA props and Society properties and committee
items.
Yearbook – produces the
annual membership directory.

FOUNDATION Committees
Endowment – authorized by
the board of directors in June 2006 to research and set-up an endowment
for the maintenance of San Antonio Conservation Society's properties.
Heritage Education Tours –
coordinates annual educational bus tours for fourth grade Texas History
students.
Historic Preservation Month
– promotes and coordinates Society-sponsored events during the annual
National Historic Preservation Week held in May.
Historical Markers, Oral History &
Research – coordinates location, text, and ceremonies for
markers for historic buildings and sites; works with the Library to
assist in research and oral histories of persons of interest to the
Society.
Library & Resource Center –
responsible for the maintenance of the Society’s library and archives
and coordinates the Publication Awards, held every other year.
Revolving Fund & Properties
Acquisition - responsible for the revolving fund program
(Foundation) and acquisition of properties research (Society).
River House – coordinates
the use of the property, for the Society’s board, general membership and
committee meetings, and occasionally meetings for outside groups—with
approval of the board of directors.
Scholarship & Grants –
oversees the Society’s scholarship program (Foundation) and grants
program (Society). Grants are currently given once per fiscal year and
are recommended to the board of directors at a special called board
meeting.
Speakers Service – provides
Society speakers as requested by community organizations.
Steves Homestead – oversees
the management of the Society’s house museum.
Teacher Education Seminar –
produces annual educational built environment workshop for teachers
(K-12) to inform them how to teach about the built environment in the
classroom.
Wulff House / Stuemke Barn
– responsible for the Society’s headquarters, office buildings and
grounds.
Yturri-Edmunds Historic Site
– responsible for the Society’s house museum complex, including tours by
appointment only.
San Antonio Conservation Society
SPECIAL Committees
City South – monitors
development proposals in the City South area.
HemisFair Park –
coordinates efforts for the preservation and enhancement of the park.
Historic Farm & Ranch Complexes
– works with the City of San Antonio’s Historic Preservation Office to
encourage owners of historic farms and ranches in the San Antonio area
to apply for landmark designation.
Notification – provides
mail-out support to committees requiring large distribution such as
Publications/Newsletter, Yearbook, and board notifications by phone as
requested.
